EU Delegation visited ISWC

Visit the Rainfall Simulation Hall 
On April 8th , an EU delegation consisting of 16 members from Germany, Ireland, Malta, Poland, Italy, Portugal, Sweden, UK and Austria, EU mission in China, International Cooperation  and Sci-tech Bureau of Ministry of Water Resources, the international cooperation and Sci-tech Division of Yellow River Conservation Committee visited ISWC and conducted academic exchange.

The delegation group conducted academic exchange with research fellows of ISWC firstly. Researcher Liu Guobin , Director of ISWC extended his warm-welcome to the delegation group on behalf of ISWC, and introduced to the guests about the history, the setup of the institute, research priorities and the progresses in the fields of soil and water conservation, ecological restoration, regional development in rural areas and the evolution of Yellow River sediment on Loess Plateau. Dr. Manuel Sapiano (Water Resources Directorate of Malta Resources Authority), Dr. Giuseppe Bortone (Director of Regione Emilia Romagna, Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Sustainable Development, Italy) and Dr. Lobo Ferreira (Groundwater Division Head, Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil, Portugal) also demonstrated their experiences and research achievements on the protection and efficient utilization of water resources , soil erosion control , coastal protection, underground water pollution control, respectively. The reports from both sides aroused the interests of the participants, and both sides expressed their wish for cooperative study into the infields of mutual interests and discussed the cooperation plans.

During their visit, the delegation group also visited the Rainfall Simulation Hall, the Climate Simulation Laboratory for Dry-land Agriculture and the Historical Exhibition Hall of ISWC, undrer the companion of researcher Deng Xiping, deputy director of the State Key Lab of Soil Erosion and Dryland Farming on Loess Plateau, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Ministry of Water Resources. This helps the delegation group to have a better understanding about the research conditions and research priorities of ISWC.

On April 9th, the delegation group went to Xi’an to attend the symposium sponsored by the Department of Water Resources of Shaanxi Province under the companionship of Mr. Wen zhongming, deputy director of the Sc-tech Division and Mr. Wang Fei , the deputy director of the Regional Research Division of ISWC. At symposium, the delegation group got to know more about the administration experiences and progresses of presented by the Department of Water Resources, Department of Environment Protection, Soil and water Conservation Bureau, Yellow River Authority and other units, got to know more about the administrative demands of both Central and local governments and the challenges they are confronting in soil and water conservation and water resource management.   

 
 
 Academic Exchange
