  The State Key Laboratory of Soil Erosion and Dryland Farming, Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Chinese Academy of Sciences is inviting scientists from all over the world to work in this State Key Laboratory.

 

  Fields of Interests

  The fields of a potential candidate may be in one of the following research areas:

  1.Soil physics, closely related to mass (water and chemicals) and energy (heat) transfer in soils.

  2.Soil erosion including mechanics, modeling, on-site monitoring methods and instrumentation, as well as new research initiatives/areas.

  3.Overland and stream hydrology as related to water runoff and aqua-system sedimentation such as streams, lakes, and reservoirs.

  4. Innovational dryland farming methods related to efficient use of water in agriculture and reforestation practices

  5.Ecological improvement methods in arid conditions

  6.GIS applications to overland hydrology, dryland farming and soil erosion prediction.

 

  Terms of the Position

  1. The candidates should be able to allocate a consecutive time period of 2 to 6 months to work in the Laboratory.

  2.The Laboratory will supply the scientists with a monthly salary of 1,500 to 4,000 US dollars/month, depending on qualifications.

  3.Provide furnished apartment of 2 to 3 bedrooms, free of charge.

  4.In-province sight-seeing tours, free of charge

  5. Round trip air tickets

 

  Responsibilities

  The scientists should work closely, consistently, but not exclusively with one or more scientists in the laboratory in the following aspects.

  1Design research plans of ongoing programs, including the main experimental designs, new experimental methods and measurement methods used, as well as the expected outputs.

  2Provide expertise in guiding on-site monitoring of ongoing research programs and laboratory/ field experiments.

  3Discuss new ideas for possible new research directions and areas for possible new project proposals to both national and international fund organizations

  4Help to outline and revise English research article manuscripts for publications in international journals.

  5Help to establish international exchange and collaboration channels.

 

  Requirements and Qualifications

  Candidates should meet the following requirements and qualifications.

  1A Ph.D degree with more than 5-year research experiences in internationally recognized institutes in one of the fields mentioned above.

  2Good professional/academic English writing ability as evidenced by a sufficient number of publications in qualified international journals.

  3Have sufficient time of 2-6 month to work in the Laboratory, no matter in-service or on retirement.

  4A Professor or equivalent ranks.

 

  This announcement will be valid till Dec. 31, 2008. Applications will be processed and reviewed timely on an individual basis. The total positions to be filled will be at least 10, before reviewed and resumed.
