Prof. Emilio A. LACA from University of California, Davis paid a visit to National Herbage Experimental Station (NHES) of Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Chinese Academy of Science & Ministry of Water Resources (ISWC) from Aug. 3 to 13.

Accompanied by CHENG Jimin, director of NHES, Prof. LACA investigated the artificial grassland, natural grassland, forest-grassland, forest hydrology and cow breeding test base in the Loess Plateau. He showed appreciation for grassland closure of the Yunwu Mountain and joint cow breeding mode combining government, technology, farmer and enterprise in Xunyi, Xianyang. These set an example for and made a positive contribution to global environmental protection and soil carbon recovery, Prof. LACA said.

During the visit, Prof. LACA delivered a report titled Grassland & Greenhouse Gases: Mitigation of Climate Change. He also had an academic exchange with the staff of NHES and ISWC on global climate change, vegetation carbon fixation, vegetation recovery and control of soil erosion and water loss in the Loess Plateau.

Both parties agreed to take collaborative research projects and exchange postgraduates, planning to train a doctorate candidate together in 2011.
