From May15 to 16, “Sino-US Forum on Ecosystem and Water Resources” , co-sponsored by College of Agriculture, University of Connecticut and China National Laboratory of Soil Erosion and Dryland Agriculture on the Loess Plateau,ISWC, Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) and Ministry of Water Resources (MWR) was held. More than 100 researchers, teachers and postgraduates attended the forum. Chinese academician Prof. ShanLun chaired the forum.
The opening ceremony was presided by researcher Liu Guobin, director of ISWC. Prof. Sun Qixin, President of Norwest A&F University, extended his warm welcome to the guests, and introduced ecological conditions and water resources research progress in China, especially in arid and semi-arid areas. Prof. John Volin, dean of Resources and Environment Sciences, University of Connecticut, made a speech on behalf of the US side, and read out loud the congratulatory letter from the president of College of Agriculture, University of Connecticut. Later, researcher Li Zhanbin, director of the China National Laboratory of Soil Erosion and Dryland Agriculture on the Loess Plateau, introduced the general situation of the laboratory and the research achievements on soil erosion and dryland farming.
After the opening ceremony, American Prof. John Volin, Prof. Daniel Civco, Prof. John Clausen, Prof. Gary Robbins, Prof. Glenn Warner, Prof. Xiusheng Yang, assistant Prof. Richard Anyah, Chinese researchers Deng Xiping, Feng Hao, He Hongming, associate researcher Wang Li, etc, made academic reports at the forum. All the reports basically reflected the latest international progress on the study of ecosystem and water resources, research hotspots, and research orientations for the future, and aroused the interests of the audience. Both sides also discussed issues such as how to conduct co-operation and exchange researchers for further study. The forum would improve the capacity of ISWC to conduct research in ecosystem and water resources, further expand the international influence of ISWC.
After the meeting, under the companionship of researcher Deng Xiping, vice director of the lab, American guests inspected the Rainfall Simulation Hall, and went to Yan AN and An Sai experiment stations to conduct scientific investigation. This helped the American guests to have a deep understanding about the research conditions and research directions of ISWC, promoted future cooperation and exchange.
